Cherry Orchard Cutting Rock

Cherry orchard cutting rock from Africa has a consistency similar to green moss agate from India, soft enough for easy cutting and still takes a good polish. The green rock has bright red patches throughout and is partialy translucent. Total weight is 8 pounds and sizes are 5 by 3 by 4inch, 4 by 2 by 2 1/2 inch, 6 by 3 by 2 inch.

Picture Rock Pair

Africa Queen picture jasper is a 2 ½ pound rock, 5 ½ inch by 2 1/3 inch by 3 inch. Africa queen has contrasting light and dark lines forming bold landscape scenes. Africa Queens seems to have a grainy texture that is not usually used in cabochon making but produces fine displays. The other rock is a mystery rock from 1960’s stock and is a bit more subdued in color contrast. The 6 by 3 by 1 3/4 inch, 2 pound, 1 ounce rock has a beige center and layers of cinnamon shades at the edges.

Tempskya Fern Fossil

Tempskya fern fossil from Cretaceous period is a false trunk composed of bundled stems. Found in Utah and Wyoming, we are not sure which area this rock came from. The fossil specimen has outer bark texture and clean faces showing the palmwood structure. Turritella are gastropods that have been present from the Cretaceous Period through to the present with a wide distribution. The elongated cones have arched whorls with deep sutures between. This highly silicated specimen is loaded with turritella shells with some 7/8 inch intact shells. The fossil Turritella fancy cutting rough when oriented for sectioned swirls of white shell in the dark matrix rock. Most rocks are fist size. Three pound minimum. Horned Coral, Utah

About a dozen pieces of horned coral weigh 2 pounds. Half of them are whole corals. The calcite and silicate replaced horned coral has an interior structure of tubes radiating outward from the center and can be cut into 1/4 slices that are crème colored, translucent and will polish. The larger pieces are 4 inch in length. The horned coral can be cut with a small trim saw.
